Top-down rank reduction from Heterotic non-Abelian orbifolds

We present our study on compactifications of the $\mathrm{SO(32)}$ heterotic string over the so-called non-Abelian orbifolds. It will be shown how to generalize the methods for the Abelian orbifolds to our scenario, and how novel features as the gauge group rank reduction arise in these geometries. We give concrete results in the cases of the orbifolds defined by the groups $S_{3}$, $D_{4}$ and $(\mathbb{Z}_4 \times \mathbb{Z}_2)$\rtimes $\mathbb{Z}_2$
