In this presentation, one uses the Gouy-Stodola theorem to calculate the entropy production over time in the inflationary epoch of the universe. This elegant theorem allows us the simple calculation of entropy as well entropy production due to the decaying of the inflaton scalar field in the early universe. Both the entropy and entropy production achieve the expected values present in the literature. This theorem, of course, can be applied to several thermodynamical systems (even mechanical systems) in which entropy production has a role in explaining the system's evolution over time.
