The weak mixing angle is a central parameter of the Standard Model. Due to the SM radiative corrections its value at the $Z^0$-pole and at low energies is different. While the running has readily been experimentally confirmed on the qualitative level, the future experiments will test the SM prediction quantitatively. Additionally, deviations from the SM running is a sensitive test of physics beyond SM which are complementary to collider searches. Apart from accurate experimental measurements, these tests rely on precision calculations of theoretical corrections. I will give an overview of the status and outlook in this field.
