Abstract
The $\rm\overline{K}N$ interaction, due to the residual strong force, is very different within the distances typical for an atomic nucleus. At about the nucleon size it has significant contributions from resonances and threshold effects which vanish with increasing distance. By selecting collisions from pp (1 fm) to Pb--Pb (5-9 fm) we can choose the average $\rm\overline{K}p$ distance and carry out, for the first time in a single experiment, a distance-dependent study of the strong interaction.
