The AdS/CFT correspondence is the best known example of a gauge/gravity duality. These dualities are realizations of the Holographic Principle, which asserts that a gravity theory in d+1 dimensions is equivalent to a d-dimensional gauge theory. Remarkably, the AdS/CFT correspondence has found applications in the study of the "Quark-Gluon Plasma" (QGP) produced in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. In this talk I will try to give a basic introduction to the AdS/CFT correspondence and explain why and under what conditions it can be used to study the QGP. |
