Abstract

The LHC has recently started Run 3, shortly after celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Higgs discovery. The current state of play and outlook for the coming run is briefly summarised. The High Luminosity LHC project is presently well into the prototyping and series production phase, with deployment planned for the next long shutdown of the machine (2026 to 2028). The main aims of the project are recalled along with progress and challenges. The new developments are pushing accelerator technology to new limits in some areas; selected highlights are discussed. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important issue for the field and a quick overview of LHC exploitation from this perspective is presented.
