The local structure of extra dimensional theories
Summary
If there are extra dimensions, some unknown mechanism separates them from the usual 3+1 of Minkowski space. However, unitarity requires that no information disappears in this process of contraction. This can be seen most clearly when studying the group contraction from higher dimensional to conventional Poincaré; if the extra dimensions remain finite, though small, there will generally be small effects that mix different irreducible representations.
