Abstract content

The use of synchrotron light can be extended from basic science to applied science. The high spectral and spatial resolution obtained from the different synchrotron based techniques is the advantage when studying materials, compared to conventional techniques. Therefore, industry can be beneficiated when applying them to study their products and improve processes, since molecular and atomic interaction can be observed and give insight into how a material is behaving. Here metals, alloys, glass, ceramics, composites, polymers, textiles, proteins, plants, can be studied at a nanoscale level, and observe their morphology, structure and composition. This can complement the results obtained by conventional instrumentation, which will turn into better understanding of the system under study and, its possible improvement. An overview of industrial applications of synchrotron techniques and two practical cases are given
