DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. PUEHLHOFER\, Gerd (Landessternwarte Heidelberg)\
nVHE observations of the distant (z=0.186) blazar 1ES 1101-232 with H.E.S.
 S. are used\nto constrain the extragalactic background light (EBL) in the
optical to near infrared\nband. As the EBL traces the galaxy formation his
tory of the universe\, galaxy\nevolution models can therefore be tested wi
th the data. In order to measure the EBL\nabsorption effect on a blazar sp
ectrum\, we assume that usual constraints on the\nhardness of the intrinsi
c blazar spectrum are not violated. We present an update of\nthe VHE spect
rum obtained with H.E.S.S. and the multifrequency data that were taken\nsi
multaneously with the H.E.S.S. measurements. The data verify that the broa
dband\ncharacteristics of 1ES 1101-232 are similar to those of other\, mor
e nearby blazars\,\nand strengthen the assumptions that were used to deriv
 e the EBL upper limit.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/4/session
