DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Prof. MURAKI\, Yasushi (Nagoya University)\nBy the s
olar flare\, a large number of solar protons are usually accelerated into
\nhigh energies. When the intensities of solar protons are very strong\,
they are \nobserved as a phenomenon\, the Ground Level Enhancement (GLE).
However\, \nit is used to be reported in the cosmic ray conferences how m
uch percentage \nthey increased in comparison with the flux of the galacti
c cosmic rays.\nIn order to know how large solar flare arrived on the Eart
h at the first stage\,\nthe quick analysis is enough\, however when we wan
t to reduce the energy \nspectra of arrived protons\, we will encounter a
difficulty. The traditional \nprocedure is not enough.\n The detectors
are located at different places of the world\, they are located at \ndiff
erent altitude\, so the attenuation of neutrons and protons in the \natmos
phere is different from each by each detector. We need correction taking
\naccount of such a difference\, when we will obtain the energy spectra of
\nprotons. However the Monte Carlo calculation done by Shibata only ga
ve the \nattenuation curve in the atmosphere for neutrons with energies be
tween 50 \nMeV to 1 GeV. \n In this paper\, we use two Monte Carlo simu
lation codes: the Geant 4 and the \nCORSICA and try to obtain a very impor
tant and useful correction data for the \nhadrons with energies 100MeV-100
 0GeV.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/4/session/80/contribution/

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. TIMASHKOV\, Dmitry (MEPhI)\nMuon diagnostics is
a new technique of remote monitoring and forecasting of \nthe development
of various dynamic processes in the heliosphere and in the \natmosphere an
d magnetosphere of the Earth based on the analysis of spatial-\nangular an
d temporal variations of muon flux simultaneously detected from all \ndire
ctions of upper hemisphere. For practical realization of the technique mul
ti-\ndirectional muon detectors (hodoscopes) with large acceptance and hig
h \nangular accuracy were designed and constructed in Moscow Engineering \
nPhysics Institute. First results of data analysis show that registration
of muon \nflux in hodoscopic mode gives unique real-time information about
processes in \nthe Earth's atmosphere and also about phenomena in the int
erplanetary space \nrelated with solar activity. The use of muon diagnosti
cs for remote localization \nof disturbed regions in the Earth's atmospher
e and near-terrestrial space and \nits forecasting potential are also disc
 ussed.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/4/session/80/contribution

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. MAKHMUTOV\, Vladimir (Lebedev Physical Institute
Russian Academy of Sciences\, Russia)\nMeasurements of muon flux in the a
tmosphere have been performed \nby Lebedev Physical Institute during sea e
 xpeditions in November\, 1975 - \nMarch\, 1976 period. This survey cove
red a wide range of latitudes with \ngeomagnetic cutoff rigidities Rc fr
om 0.8 up to 14.2 GV. \nThe data on muon flux as a function of atmospheric
  depth ( X~ 10-1000 g/cm2) \nwere\nobtained.\nOn the other hand based on G
EANT4 facilities we have calculated the \nsecondary \nmuon fluxes produced
by galactic cosmic rays in the atmosphere at different Rc \nduring solar
activity minimum epoch. \nThe experimental and calculation results as well
as their comparison \nare presented in the paper.\n\nhttps://indico.nucle

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. USOSKIN\, Ilya (Sodankylä Geophysical Observato
 ry (Oulu unit)\, POB 3000\, FIN-90014 University of Oulu\, Finland)\nWe pr
esent a physical model to calculate cosmic ray induced ionization in the\n
atmosphere. The model is based on the Monte-Carlo CORSIKA tool\, which sim
ulates full\ndevelopment of an electromagnetic-muon-nucleonic cascade in t
he atmosphere\, with the\nFLUKA package used for low energy interactions.
The model is applicable to the entire\natmosphere\, from the ground up to
the stratosphere. A comparison to fragmentary\ndirect measurements of the
ionization in the atmosphere confirms the validity of the\nmodel in the wh
ole range of geographical latitudes and altitudes. We provide a\ndetailed
recipe to compute easily the cosmic ray induced ionization for given\nloca
tion\, altitude and the spectrum of cosmic rays. This provides a new tool
for a\nquantitative study of the space weather influence upon the Earth's
 environment. Some\npractical applications are discussed.\n\nhttps://indico

SUMMARY:The yearly and seasonal variations from 7-year data set of daily c
osmogenic nuclide Be-7 concentrations in the atmosphere

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Mr. KIKUCHI\, Satoshi (Department of Physics Yamagat
a University)\nBe-7 is produced by interaction between cosmic rays and nit
rogen or oxygen in \nthe atmosphere. The variation of its concentration in
dicates the variation of \ncosmic-rays intensity. Cosmic rays which reach
the earth are modulated by the \nsolar activities in the heliosphere. It i
s important to investigate the relationship \nbetween the concentrations o
f Be-7 and the solar activities\, because of the \nestimation of the solar
activities in past time using the cosmogenic nuclide with \nthe long half
-life.\n We have been continuously observing the daily Be-7 concentration
 in \nYamagata\, Japan (38.3°N\, 140.3°E) since 2000. Based on the 7-year
\nobservation\, anti-correlations between the Be-7s and the sunspot numbe
rs are \nobtained. The variation of Be-7 concentrations was 38 % during th
 e 7 years \nwhen the sunspot numbers changed 75 %. However\, as the behavi
or is not so \nsimple\, we have analyzed the seasonal variations.\n Moreov
er\, the Be-7 concentrations have been continuously observed in Iceland\n(
64.7°N\, 21.2°W) since Sep.2003. This observation point is situated at h
igh \nlatitude.\n We report the relationship between the variation of Be-7
concentrations and \nsolar activities\, using the 7-year data set and the
  3-year dataset in Iceland.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/4/se

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Prof. WOLFENDALE\, Arnold (Durham University)\nIt ha
s been claimed (Szensmark\, 2007\, and others) that observed correlations
\nof terrestrial cloud cover with 'the cosmic ray intensity' are casual.
The \npossibility arises\, therefore of a connection between cosmic ray in
tensity and \nGlobal Warming. If true\, the implications would be very gr
eat.\nAn examination of the situation is made.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares
