DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Prof. HASEBE\, Nobuyuki (Waseda University)\nOur gal
axy is filled with relativistic nuclei and electrons\, or galactic cosmic\
nrays(GCRs). The source of GCR nuclei\, especially ultraheavy nuclei(Z>30)
\, is still\nunknown\, though the measurement of ultraheavy cosmic rays ha
s been identified as an\nimportant goal of cosmic-ray research. Observatio
n program of ultra-heavy nuclei in\nGCRs is proposed with the use of solid
-state track detector on board long-duration\nballoon and/or space station
. The program focuses to measure the isotopic abundance\nabove iron-peak e
lements and the composition of the rare ultraheavy nuclei up to\nuranium a
nd transuranium at high energies. The observation of nuclear composition\n
covers a wide range of scientific themes including studies of nucleosynthe
sis of\ncosmic ray sources\, chemical evolution of galactic material\, the
characteristic time\nof cosmic rays\, heating and acceleration mechanism
of cosmic ray particles. In order\nto achieve the objectives\, the Interna
tional Space Station and/or Super Pressure\nBalloon capable of carrying ve
ry large scientific payloads for long extended period\nis best suited. The
possible approach is based on a large telescope-array(4m^2 in\nsensitive
area) of modularized SSTD stacks presently under study.\n\nhttps://indico.
