DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. AHN\, Hoseok (Institute for Physical Science and
Technology\, University of Maryland)\nThe Advanced Thin Ionization Calori
 meter (ATIC)\, a balloon-borne experiment\, \nis designed to investigate t
he composition and energy spectra of cosmic rays of \ncharge Z = 1 to 26 o
 ver the energy range ~ 10^11 - ~ 10^14 eV. The \ninstrument consists of a
silicon matrix charge detector\, plastic scintillator strip \nhodoscopes i
nterleaved with graphite interaction targets\, and an 18 radiation \nlengt
h deep\, fully active bismuth germanate (BGO) calorimeter. ATIC has had \n
two successful long duration balloon (LDB) flights launched from McMurdo \
nStation\, Antarctica in 2000 and 2002. In this paper\, we present the all
-particle \nspectrum extracted from data collected during the ATIC flights
\, and compare it \nwith results from other experiments at both lower and
 higher energies.\n\nhttps://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/4/session/8/con
