 he Very High Energy Telescope Array (VERITAS) is a system of four imaging 
 Cherenkov\ntelescopes located at the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory in 
 southern Arizona. We\npresent here results of detailed Monte Carlo simulat
 ions of the array response to\nextensive air showers. Cherenkov image and 
 shower parameter distributions are\ncalculated and show good agreement wit
 h distributions obtained from observations of\nbackground cosmic rays and 
 high-energy gamma-rays. Several different approaches to\nthe simulation of
  the telescope response and the trigger system of the array allow an\nesti
 mation of the systematic uncertainties of the calculations.\n\nhttps://ind
