 RITAS\, the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System\, is a
 n array of four 12 m diameter imaging \natmospheric Cherenkov telescopes f
 or gamma-ray astronomy above 100 GeV currently in operation in Arizona. Th
 e \nVERITAS Collaboration has developed VEGAS\, the VERITAS Gamma-ray Anal
 ysis Suite\, a data-analysis software \npackage for the processing of sing
 le- and multiple-telescope data produced by the array.  The package consis
 ts of a \ncore of six stages as well as visualisation and diagnostic compo
 nents. It has been developed in C++ using modern \nobjected-oriented desig
 n patterns to be highly flexible\, configurable and extendable. VEGAS util
 ises CERN’s ROOT \ndata-analysis framework and runs on Linux and Mac OS 
 X systems. The architecture and structure of the VEGAS \npackage will be d
 escribed in detail while the data analysis algorithms are described in add
