DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. MEDINA TANCO\, Gustavo (ICN-UNAM)\nThe Pierre Au
ger Collaboration intends to extend the energy range of its southern\nobse
rvatory in Argentina for high quality data from 0.1 to 3 EeV. The extensio
ns\nproposed and described in accompanying papers\, include three addition
al fluorescence\ntelescopes with a more elevated field of view (HEAT) and
a nested surface array with\n750 and 433 m spacing respectively and additi
onal muon detection capabilities\n(AMIGA). The enhancement of the detector
will allow measurement of cosmic rays\, using\nthe same techniques\, from
below the second knee up to the highest energies observed.\nThe evolution
of the spectrum through the second knee and ankle\, and corresponding\npr
edicted changes in composition\, are crucial to the understanding the end
of\nGalactic confinement and the effects of propagation on the lower energ
y portion of\nthe extragalactic flux. The latter is strongly related to th
e cosmological\ndistribution of sources and to the composition of the inje
cted spectrum. We discuss\nthe science motivation behind these enhancement
s as well as the impact of combined\nHEAT and AMIGA information on the ass
essment of shower simulations and reconstruction\ntechniques.\n\nhttps://i
