Abstract
We study the Shannon entropy and heat capacity of charged-particle production in pp collisions at LHC energies within the color string fragmentation framework, which usually incorporates the Schwinger mechanism as a model for hadron production. After convoluting the q-Gaussian string tension distribution, we obtain that the pT spectrum is described by a Tricomi function that reproduces the observed experimental data. Treating the pT spectrum as a probability density function, we compute the Shannon entropy and the associated heat capacity to study their evolution with temperature. We analyze the ALICE-LHC data regarding the production of charged particles in pp collisions at √s = 5.02, 7, and 13 TeV under the V0M and SPD multiplicity classifications to study how the thermodynamic quantities evolve under different multiplicity selection biases. We found that the V0M classification yields an almost constant heat capacity, while the SPD classification shows a monotonically increasing entropy and heat capacity. Our results imply that the theoretical or phenomenological observables may have dependences on the multiplicity classifiers that could lead to misleading interpretations or conclusions.
