DESCRIPTION:The effects of strong magnetic fields on the masses of neutral
  and charged pions are studied within the framework of the linear sigma mo
 del with quarks. The calculation is performed using charged-particle propa
 gators in Schwinger's proper-time representation\, including the effects o
 f the Schwinger phase in the evaluation of pion self-energy diagrams. From
  the resulting one-loop contributions\, the magnetic-field dependence of t
 he pion masses is determined and contrasted with results previously obtain
