DESCRIPTION:The Nuclear Sciences Institute (ICN) of the National Autonomou
 s University of Mexico invites high school students to participate in the 
 International Masterclass on Particle Therapy.\n\nThe Particle Therapy Mas
 terclass demonstrates the direct impact of fundamental research on medic
 al applications. This Masterclass Project allows participants to familiar
 ise with the actual operation technique used for cancer treatment employ
 ing x-rays\, protons or carbon ions like a physical knife directed by soft
 ware programs. \n\nThe Particle Therapy Masterclass is integrated in the
  International Physics Masterclasses\, a well-established outreach educat
 ional activity and flagship project of the International Particle Physic
 s Outreach Group\, IPPOG\, spread around the world. Each year more than 1
 3000 students from more than 60 countries come to one of about 225 nearby 
 universities or research centres for one day in order to unravel the myste
 ries of particle physics and its applications. At the end of each day\, li
 ke in an international research collaboration\, the participants join in a
  video conference for discussion and combination of their results. \n\nThi
 s event has received funding from PAPIME-UNAM under grant No. PE100426. \n
