Exploring the lifetime frontier with MoEDAL and MAPP

Description

The never-reached-before collision energy of the LHC has opened up a discovery `terra incognita', without any signs of new physics in sight yet. The first LHC dedicated search experiment, MoEDAL, is designed to look for (long-lived) highly ionising particle avatars of new physics in proton and heavy-ion collision data. The planned upgrade for MoEDAL at Run 3 - the MoEDAL Apparatus for Penetrating Particles MAPP) - will extend MoEDAL's physics reach to feebly interacting, long-lived messengers of physics beyond the Standard Model. This will allow probing a number of portal models, including the dark sector, in a complementary way to that of main LHC collider detectors. The presentation focuses on recent results, both on magnetic and electric charges, installation status and plans for the LHC Run 3. Moreover, a possible astroparticle extension to MoEDAL, called Cosmic-MoEDAL, will allow the search for magnetic monopoles to be continued from the TeV scale to the GUT scale.
