Description |
The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab has recently released its first
result, reporting a 460 parts-per-billion (ppb) measurement of the
anomalous magnetic moment of the positive muon. This result is in
agreement with previous measurement from Brookhaven
National Laboratory (BNL), where a 3 standard deviation disagreement
with the standard model prediction was uncovered nearly two decades
ago. The combined Fermilab and BNL result increases the tension with
the Standard Model. This talk will describe the theoretical status,
the details of the Fermilab experiment, the first experimental
results, and prospects for future improvements in precision.
