 ucleares)\nWe look for cosmic strings solutions\, which arise as topologic
 al defects in the equations of motion of an extension of the Standard Mode
 l (SM). These cosmic strings are vortices with a filament structure formed
  by the $U(1)_{B-L}$ (baryon-number minus lepton-number) gauge field. We i
 nclude this gauge field to turn $B-L$ into a local symmetry such that it b
 ecomes naturally exact. In this extension we also include a new scalar Hig
 gs field and a sterile right-handed neutrino\, curing the previous anomali
 es that prohibited this gauge field in the minimal version of the SM. Furt
 hermore we can obtain a mass term for neutrinos through the Higgs mechanis
