A momentum-independent symmetry preserving vector-vector contact interaction helps to study different observables of light mesons and baryons. It can be extended to study heavy and heavy-light mesons and baryons too. We study how the quark gap equation is affected if we change the number of colors and flavors, or under the effects of finite temperature and magnetic field? In particular, we present the phenomena of magnetic catalysis and its inverse.
