Abstract content

J.D. Tapia Takaki (For the ALICE Collaboration).

Since November 2009 the Large Hadron Collider has been colliding proton beams. Moreover, since March 2010, it has set a record for high-energy collisions, by colliding proton beams at a centre-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=7 TeV. In this talk, the present status of the ALICE detector and its performance in the detection of quarkonia will be discussed. Some preliminary results in p+p interactions at 7 TeV, using this detector, will be described. In addition, the prospects of measuring such signals in the early heavy-ion runs will also be mentioned.
